Meet Our Team: Cam Luna

Cam Luna

Cam Luna is an administrative assistant here at LifeCare Advocates. It’s her friendly, supportive voice that potential clients first hear when they call our office.

Cam understands what it’s like to care for a parent. She explains in her own words.

What’s your role at LifeCare Advocates?

I’m usually a client’s first introduction to LifeCare Advocates. I handle all the intake calls. After gathering some information, I connect them with a member of our leadership team to talk more specifically about their story and how LCA can help. I also provide administrative and clerical support for our care managers.

When someone is considering our services, I send them a fee agreement for their review. Once they become an LCA client, I ensure that all of their information is entered into our system. Then we’re ready for the next step in the process, which is assigning a care manager to work with them and their families.

What brought you to LifeCare Advocates?

In 2020, during the pandemic, I got laid off. I started looking for a position where I could help an organization, agency or company that was doing something to improve the lives of their clients. I contacted an employment agency, and the person there connected me with Kate, Sandy, Jackie and Anna for a zoom call. I started in April of 2021.

Were you in a caring profession before?

I was a first-grade teacher for about 10 years. I really enjoyed that because you’re shaping young minds. It was rewarding and fun to see the children learn and grow. Being a teacher required wearing many hats, lots of compassion, and a good dose of humor. But after 10 years I felt I didn’t have a good work-life balance. I did some temp work after that, but still felt that I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.

What do you enjoy about your work?

I enjoy hearing people’s stories, and I enjoy reassuring them that we are equipped to help them. Some people don’t know where to start. Others do have some idea of what we do. They’re all looking for ways to help their loved ones or in some cases themselves.

The leadership team and the staff are very helpful and very pleasant to work with. And they keep in mind work-life balance. It’s great to work with people who care about the whole person.

Were you familiar with the industry?

No. In fact, I recently moved my elderly mother here from Florida. We sold her house and moved her here over a couple of weeks. During that time, I handled her doctor appointments, the sale of the house – all of her affairs. I wish I had known about this profession! It’s overwhelming to try to manage another person’s life and everything that goes with it. Fortunately, I have two sisters to help bear the burden.

You can really hear a sense of relief from our clients when they realize they don’t have to do this alone. It’s definitely a needed service.

What do you do in your spare time?

I volunteer at a museum in Attleboro. I do art and crafts, and I belong to a book club. I love game nights and paint nights with family and friends.
